Cordyceps are a little different than what probably pops in your head when you hear mushrooms.
But that just makes them more interesting.
Here are our Top 5 Cordyceps facts.
A strategic Parasite
Parasite is not the most welcoming idea when it comes to things you put in your mouth. But in this case it works. Cordyceps infect insects and then manipulate them to climb to high points so they can release spread their spores across a wider area.
Winter Worm, Summer Grass
These mushrooms have been highly valued for centuries in Chinese Medecine. They have been used for everything from respiratory healthy, to kidney function, to overall vitatily.
Tibetan Mushrooms
Cordyceps are most widely found in the Himalayan mountains. And the harsh climate and cool temperatures are thought to help them produce the compounds that give them their adaptogenic qualities.
Hollywood Inspiration
The creators of the game and TV show the last of us took inspiration from the way cordyceps infect their insect hosts and get them to do their bidding.
Fortunately, humans and insects are very different and they is no way these mushrooms can infect humans.
Ophiocordycepes Sinensis
One variety of cordyceps that comes from the fungi infecting a ghost caterpillar larve is the rarest and most expensive fungi on earth. Sometimes called Himilayan Gold, a pound or two sometimes goes for $20,000.
Those things are all interesting.
But what I like best is the increased energy, strong immune health, and easier time I have breathing when I include this mushroom in my supplement blends.
